Femmepact

Operators,
not recipients.

Femmepact is our programme for women in agriculture. We train women’s cooperatives at the unit, develop their own products and brands with them, and open the way to local markets and export.

How Femmepact works.

  1. 01 Training at the unit

Drying, milling, sorting, packing, right at the Solar Dryer instead of in a seminar room.

  2. 02 Thinking like an entrepreneur

Costing, pricing and negotiating with buyers.

  3. 03 Their own brand

Together with the cooperatives we develop products with their own name, their own packaging and their own story.

  4. 04 Access to markets

We connect them with traders and with certifiers such as organic or Fairtrade, for local sales and export.

  5. 05 Access to financeplanned

Savings groups, microloans and instalment purchase: the cooperative pays off the unit from its revenue and becomes its owner.

  6. 06 Women training womenplanned

Experienced operators become trainers and pass their knowledge on to new cooperatives.

Why women.

Women do a large share of the work after harvest, yet the profit often ends up with middlemen. Femmepact makes sure that processing, income and decisions stay in women’s hands.

  • 66 %

of working women in sub-Saharan Africa are employed in agrifood systems.

  • 24 %

lower yields for women on plots of the same size, because they lack access to knowledge, technology and markets.

  • 58 m

more people would earn a higher income if half of small-scale producers benefited from programmes that empower women.
